Smoked Mackerel - Peppered
Our juicy fillets of Jack Mackerel are smoked to perfection. Mackerel is an oily fish and therefore lends itself exceptionally well to the smoking process - remaining temptingly moist and brimming with flavour yet retaining its sophistication.
About Jack Mackeral (Trachurus novaezelandiae)
Jack Mackeral flesh is dark in colour and are medium to soft in texture. They also have a medium to high fat content.
Jack Mackerel are mainly caught in the purse-seine target fishery in the Bay of Plenty and off the east Northland coast. Trawl fisheries catch Jack Mackerel in other areas including the Taranaki Bight and Chatham Rise. They grow to a length of approximatley 30 cm.
